My Life Before Real Estate

I used to work as a professional photographer in Melbourne, Australia & London, England and before that as an Account Manager for a promotional gifts company in England. I have to say this is my most fulfilling career yet!

What I love About Being a REALTOR

There is no such thing as a dull day in real estate, whether it’s running around showing some amazing homes or meeting with sellers who are moving onto a new chapter in their lives. I enjoy working with clients who are as excited about the buying/selling process as I am, and educating those just starting out with the purchase of their first home. I also enjoy using my negotiation skills and thinking outside the box when helping clients get the best possible price.

Why I Love Helping Buyers

When I work with Buyers I’ll be there poking holes in properties (not literally…well maybe!) as they may go in with rose tinted glasses, my role is to see past the staging and the new paint job to find out exactly what’s going on with the property. When working with first time buyers, who have perhaps saved hard for many years to build up their down payments, I love sharing in the excitment they experience when looking for their first home. I love talking to them about their dreams, hopes and sometimes the harsh realities of home ownership, while we navigate the sometimes stressful and fast-paced Toronto market. Being able to fight it out and secure them a great starter home fills me with happiness at being part of their journey.

Favourite Buyer Story

I worked with a couple from Vancouver who knew roughly the neighbourhood they wanted to move to and they wanted a detached house, that was about it. I enjoyed going through the pros and cons of each house with them over several Zoom meetings and we always had a lot of laughs getting to know each other. Thank goodness everything is digital with real estate nowadays because not only could we view photos online together, I could give them a virtual tour through FaceTime with me walking through the house, could send them data and analysis on value through email and get them to sign offer paperwork through DocuSign. The most amazing part of this process was having their trust in me as their Realtor, to do my due diligence (what’s the neighbourhood like, what’s down the street) and negotiating and securing their next home, all without meeting me or the seeing the house in person. I’m so happy that they loved the house once they’d moved across the country, I can’t deny I was a little worried!

Why I Love Helping Sellers

Some homes are totally beautiful and easy to show off to their best, others are more challenging, need some lovin’ and skills to turn it from shabby to chic. This is what I enjoy about getting properties to market, the transformation, especially with staging and photography. What I also take over is the stress away from sellers so they can concentrate on life, work and the inevitable stresses of a move. Put it all on my broad shoulders, I love it!

Favourite Seller Story

I love working with out of town or country sellers who put their complete trust in you to handle every facet of getting their biggest investment ready for market, and getting them the best possible price. I worked with one client recently who asked us to handle repairs, painting, staging, photography, so that their condo could be presented to the market in it’s best possible light, as you only get one chance of making a great impression. I was able to advise him about non resident tax implications and suggest lawyers that we love. Even though some units in this particular condo building had been languishing on the market for a while, we secured multiple offers and an amazing price.

My Life Outside of Real Estate

When I’m not working you can find me travelling (favourites include Australia, Vietnam, Bali, New Zealand, Italy), spending time with family, reading horror novels, watching Formula One racing and my other passion, photography.
