Central East is a settled, family-oriented slice of Ajax, and like the rest of the town it’s diverse and dual-income… Ajax is about 26% South Asian and one of the more multicultural towns in the GTA. Median household income across Ajax runs around $119,000, above the provincial average, with a median age near 38. Compared with the newest subdivisions, this pocket has more long-time owners who’ve been here a while.

What We Love

The price. You get an established Ajax address, mature trees and a mix of housing types for meaningfully less than the newer north-end communities. It’s central to the town’s shops, community centres and highways, and the streets feel lived-in rather than freshly poured.

What We Don't Love

The housing stock is older, so expect the usual older-home homework: roofs, windows and mechanicals that may be due. You’re still driving to the GO and to most errands, and this isn’t a neighbourhood with a walkable main street of its own. Selection can be thin, since fewer homes trade here in a given quarter than in the busier communities.

Real Estate

Central East is a mix of detached homes, semis and townhomes from the town’s earlier waves of building, which is what keeps prices below the newer north end. Transit

Ajax GO on the Lakeshore East line is a short drive south, running about 50 minutes to Union with service roughly every 20 minutes. Durham Region Transit handles local buses, and the 401, 407 and 412 cover the rest of the GTA by car.

Schools

Central East Ajax is served by the Durham District School Board and the Durham Catholic District School Board, with Ajax High School among the public options and Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School on the Catholic side.
