The Lowdown on Yorkville

Your Typical Neighbour

Young, moneyed singles or starter families looking for their first purchase. Accomplished child-less professionals. Empty nesters looking to downsize from their large suburban homes. Also potentially a star athlete or celebrity.

What We

You can people watch from the patio over an amazing (expensive) meal at One, or head to ZaZa for an espresso and more of the same. And where else in the city can you find a park with a billion-year-old rock in it?

What We Don't

Space is at a premium in Yorkville, and affordable condo units are small. Parking is a challenge and expensive...just be careful not to scratch the Lotus parked next to you.

There’s good news on the real estate front in Yorkville. You don’t HAVE to millions of dollars to make this neighbourhood your home. A number of new condo buildings have found homes in the area and are providing first-time buyers (okay, the higher end of first-time buyers) with an opportunity to settle here. The not so good news is that you’re going to sacrifice space in order to do so. If you’re looking for something a little more spacious, you can find that too it just will come with a more hefty price tag.

The point we’re trying to make here is that this neighbourhood has real diversity within its Avenue, Davenport, Yonge and Bloor St borders. The retail and people-watching opportunities make it a popular place for tourists of every socio-economic demographic, and people who live here and get used to the lifestyle don’t often leave it. Homes in Yorkville are well kept, and the late 1880’s built Victorian houses have been maintained with pride of ownership (and the obvious resources to do so) that is clearly evident.

About Yorkville

Welcome to Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood!

Yorkville is bounded by Bloor Street to the south, Davenport Road to the north, Yonge Street to the east, and Avenue Road to the west. It is also bounded by Burberry, Prada, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Vera Wang, Kate Spade, Swarovski, Birks, Coach, Betsy Johnson, Hermes, Tiffany & Co; and Chanel. Sorry (not sorry) to all of you shopaholics out there!

While Yorkville isn’t a neighbourhood that is easy on your wallet, it is most definitely an area of Toronto that is easy on the eyes. Comprised of a mix of residential and commercial buildings, the Yorkville we see today is owed to its bohemian roots. It is most notably the breeding ground for Canadian talents including Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Margaret Atwood, and Dennis Lee. Yorkville was considered a pivotal nexus in Canada’s hippie movement. Ironically, its popularity with hippies and artists led to the area once being described as “a festering sore in the middle of the city”, and many calling for it to be bulldozed and removed.

No longer the case, international visitors, and ‘Torontonians’ appreciate Yorkville as one of the city’s most photogenic neighbourhoods. Today, it is home to some of the most beautiful restaurants, bars, nightclubs, clothing stores, cafes, and shopping that Toronto has to offer. It is also the stomping grounds for world-class hotels such as Four Seasons, the Park Hyatt, the Hazleton Hotel, and the Windsor Arms. As a result, Yorkville is where the well-heeled flock for spa treatments, business lunches, functions, weekend getaways, date nights, and shopping trips.

Given the abundant luxury and convenience of this neighbourhood, real estate in Yorkville come with a heavy price tag. But once you move into the area, it seems that the heavy price tag is the only thing you will have to lift. The walkability, lifestyle, and convenience of living in the centre of the city – combined with the beauty of the neighbourhood – makes for an everyday lifestyle that is worth every penny.
