Cultural landmarks: the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex on Valley Farm Road, the city’s flagship rec centre with an 8-lane pool, two ice pads, squash and tennis; and Pickering Town Centre, the region’s major mall, just to the east of the neighbourhood’s southern end.

Hot local spots: most of the retail runs along Kingston Road and around the mall… chain-heavy but complete. 

Parks & green space: David Farr Park, home of the Glendale Tennis Club, the largest community tennis club in Durham with four courts; plus a network of smaller parks and the Duffins Creek valley lands along the eastern edge.

Established families and long-time owners, plus a steady stream of first-time detached buyers moving up from condos in Toronto or south Pickering. Community-level census data isn’t published for Liverpool, so municipal context: Pickering was 99,186 people in 2021, with a median household income around $118,000.

What We Love

The convenience is hard to beat: GO, 401, mall, rec complex and schools, all within a 10-minute radius. Lots are a decent size, the streets are mature and quiet, and the housing stock is solid 1970s-to-1990s construction that renovates well. For commuters who want a real house without a punishing train ride, Liverpool is one of Durham’s most rational choices.

What We Don't Love

It’s beige, architecturally and otherwise… if you’re looking for charm, this isn’t where Pickering keeps it. Kingston Road is a traffic slog at peak times, the retail is overwhelmingly chains, and homes near the 401 corridor come with highway hum. Renovated houses here also increasingly carry price tags that test the “value” argument.

Real Estate

Transit

Pickering GO on the Lakeshore East line is the anchor, roughly 40 to 45 minutes to Union, with Durham Region Transit routes feeding the station through the neighbourhood. Drivers get the 401 at Liverpool Road and Kingston Road (Highway 2) as the local spine. By Durham standards, you can genuinely function here with one car.

Schools

Liverpool is served by the Durham District School Board and the Durham Catholic District School Board, with options including Glengrove PS and Vaughan Willard PS, Pine Ridge Secondary School on Liverpool Road, and St. Isaac Jogues Catholic School, with St. Mary Catholic Secondary School serving Catholic high schoolers city-wide.
