Welcome To Taunton (Oshawa)

Taunton is the newer, upper end of north Oshawa, the subdivisions filling in north of Taunton Road between Wilson Road and Townline, where the city edges into the rolling farmland and the Oak Ridges Moraine. This is larger, newer housing than most of Oshawa: two-storey detached homes on generous lots, built to catch families priced out of Whitby and points west. The Delpark Homes Centre, a big four-pad rec complex on Harmony Road, anchors the area’s recreation.

It is a suburban, family-first place, not a walkable one. The pitch is space, newer homes and green surroundings at north-Oshawa prices, with the highways doing the heavy lifting and the lake a real distance away.

Taunton Oshawa FAQs

The northeast part of Oshawa, roughly bounded by Taunton Road to the south, Conlin Road to the north, Wilson Road to the west and Townline Road to the east, backing onto farmland and the Oak Ridges Moraine.

In the first quarter of 2026 the community averaged about $993,000, with a median around $964,500 (Q1 2026 TRREB figures). It’s one of the pricier Oshawa communities, reflecting the larger, newer detached homes that dominate the area.

Be realistic: this is far north Oshawa, so you drive 15 to 20 minutes south to Oshawa GO on the Lakeshore East line, then about 60 to 70 minutes to Union (Oshawa is the current eastern end of the line). Highway 407 across the north handles east-west trips, and the 401 is farther south. Two cars is the norm.

Very much so. Larger homes, newer schools, a major recreation centre on Harmony Road and conservation land nearby make it one of the more family-oriented pockets in Oshawa.

If you want a big, newer house, green surroundings and family amenities, yes. If you want transit at your door, a short commute or a walkable core, this isn’t it.

Around the Neighbourhood

Cultural landmarks: this is a newer suburban area rather than a heritage core, so the anchors are recreational and natural. The Delpark Homes Centre on Harmony Road is the standout, a roughly 200,000-square-foot complex with four NHL-sized ice pads, a leisure pool, fitness centre and library.

Parks & green space: Harmony Valley Conservation Area sits just east of the subdivisions with trails, meadows and an off-leash dog area, and neighbourhood parks including Coldstream Park and Stonecrest Parkette serve the surrounding streets.

Your Typical Neighbour

Taunton skews toward established, move-up families: larger detached homes, two incomes, kids in the local schools. Oshawa as a whole had a population of about 175,000 in 2021 and a median household income around $86,000, and this newer, higher-priced north-end community runs well above that city average, drawing buyers who want more house and land than they’d get closer to Toronto. It’s a settle-in-and-stay kind of neighbourhood.

What We Love

You get real house and lot for the money here: larger, newer detached homes at prices that still undercut comparable Whitby and west-GTA product. The Delpark Homes Centre is a genuinely good rec facility, the schools are new, and Harmony Valley Conservation Area and the moraine give the area a green, semi-rural backdrop that the older parts of Oshawa can’t match. For move-up families, it’s one of the strongest value plays in north Durham.

What We Love

It’s a long haul to the train, and the drive-plus-hour to Union is a serious daily commitment, so cost the commute before the square footage wins you over. The area is car-dependent and still building out, with active construction and thin tree cover on the newest streets. And there’s no walkable main street or nightlife… this is a drive-to-everything suburb, full stop.

Real Estate

Taunton is dominated by newer, larger detached homes, with some freehold townhomes filling out the mix. It’s one of the higher-priced Oshawa communities, and the consistent, move-in-ready stock appeals to move-up families who want space without the Whitby premium. New to the market? Transit

This is car country. The nearest GO service is Oshawa GO on the Lakeshore East line, a 15-to-20-minute drive south, running about 60 to 70 minutes to Union. Durham Region Transit buses serve the Harmony and Taunton corridors, and Highway 407 across the north plus the 401 farther south put the rest of the GTA within reach by car.

Schools

Taunton is served by the Durham District School Board and the Durham Catholic District School Board. Schools in and around the area include Queen Elizabeth Public School and, on the Catholic side, Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School (set to open September 2027), plus other Durham board options.
