Welcome To Pinecrest (Oshawa)
Pinecrest sits in the northeast corner of Oshawa, a mostly newer residential community built out through the 1990s and 2000s. It leans practical and family-first: single-detached homes on regular lots, townhome complexes, a co-op and an apartment building, all wrapped around a surprising amount of green space. Harmony Creek and the East Branch of the Oshawa Creek run through the area, and the Harmony Valley Conservation Area anchors the south end, so a lot of these homes are a short walk from a trail.
It is not a walk-to-transit, walk-to-a-main-street kind of place, and it doesn’t pretend to be. The shopping lives up on Taunton Road along the northern edge, the schools and parks are close, and the rest runs on cars. The pitch is straightforward: newer house, more yard, trails out the back, at an Oshawa price.

Pinecrest (Oshawa) FAQs
Northeast Oshawa, roughly bounded by Taunton Road to the north and Harmony Road, with Harmony Creek and the conservation lands threading through the middle.
This is mostly a detached and townhome market. In early 2026 the community averaged about $739,000, with a median around $705,000 (Q1 2026 TRREB figures). Expect freehold townhomes to sit below that average and newer detached two-storeys above it. There is no live stats block for Durham yet, so treat these as a point-in-time snapshot.
Plan on driving. There’s no GO station in Pinecrest, so it’s roughly a 10-to-15-minute drive south to Oshawa GO on the Lakeshore East line, then about an hour to Union. Highway 401 is to the south, and the 407 and 418 give you the northern routes across the region. Most households here run two cars.
Yes, that’s the core of it. Newer homes, plenty of schools, parks on most streets and the conservation trails make it an easy sell for families with kids and dogs.
If you want newer construction, green space and value, yes. If you need transit at your door, a walkable main street or a short downtown commute, look elsewhere.
Around the Neighbourhood
Cultural landmarks: the Harmony Valley Conservation Area, the largest natural landmark in this part of Oshawa, plus the network of Harmony Creek and Oshawa Creek trails that give the community its shape.
Hot local spots: the everyday shopping runs along Taunton Road on the northern edge, anchored by SmartCentres Oshawa North (Walmart Supercentre, Home Depot, and other big-box retail) at Taunton and Harmony.
Parks & green space: Harmony Valley Conservation Area for longer walks, with neighbourhood parks along Harmony Creek and the East Branch of the Oshawa Creek for playgrounds and everyday green space.
Your Typical Neighbour
Pinecrest skews toward families and settled homeowners: dual-income households, school-age kids and a lot of people who bought newer here specifically for the space. Oshawa is Durham’s largest city, home to roughly 175,000 people as of the 2021 census, with a median household income of about $86,000. Community-level figures for Pinecrest are not published separately, so these are municipality-wide numbers.
What We Love
The green space punches above its weight. Having Harmony Valley Conservation Area and two creek systems inside a suburban neighbourhood is genuinely rare, and it means trails, ravines and real trees rather than a token park. The housing stock is newer than most of Oshawa, so buyers get updated layouts and less deferred maintenance, and the Taunton Road shopping covers the weekly errands without a long drive.
What We Don't Love
You will need a car, likely two. The commute to the GO train and downtown is a real drive, so price that in before you fall for the trails. The northern retail strip is functional big-box shopping, not charm, and the neighbourhood itself is quiet to the point of sleepy… great if that’s what you want, less so if you want to walk to a bar or a proper main street.
Real Estate
Pinecrest is mostly newer single-detached homes from the 1990s and 2000s, with townhome complexes, a co-op and an apartment building filling out the range. It’s one of the more affordable newer-build pockets in north Oshawa, and it tends to attract move-up buyers and families trading condo life closer to Toronto for a house and a yard.
