Our hearts are heavy this week. We lost our dear friend and mortgage partner Jake Abramowicz (aka Mortgage Jake) in a tragic cycling accident on the weekend.

Jake filled every room he entered with his larger-than-life personality and endless energy. He was unabashedly opinionated. He was fearless. He was smart. He was witty.

Jake made mortgages exciting (and in the words of a friend-of-a-friend, “Jake made everything exciting”). He provided outstanding service to our clients and his unique insight and analysis about the real estate market made us better REALTORs. He truly loved helping people and he was the guy you wanted on your side when things didn’t go as planned. While he was one of Canada’s top mortgage brokers, he treated each one of his clients like they were his only priority.

Jake was all-in with everything he did and loved sharing his passions with us. With Brendan and I, it was all about good food, wine, travel and Catan; with Lisa, it was their shared obsession with the Raptors and baseball; with Kellye, it was fantasy football; with Matt, he shared a love of cars; he bonded with Jenny over dogs, with Kristin and Allie over kids and parenting and real estate, and with Halina, their shared Polish heritage. He meant so much to each one of us.

Our hearts are breaking for his fabulous wife and best friend Veronica and their 10-year-old son Gabe. If you knew Jake, you knew that most conversations with him inevitably turned to stories of his family adventures or how proud he was of them. He loved them fiercely and wanted everyone to know it.

Jake: You’re irreplaceable. We celebrate your life, your contributions to our industry and the incredible gift of your friendship. I wish we could have had more time together.

From Jake’s family:
His passing was sudden and shocking but – because Jake believed enjoying life was paramount – he would surely not want anyone to feel down for long. In lieu of flowers, please consider a voluntary and random act of kindness for someone you think could use one, or if you are able, a donation to the MortgageJake Scholarship Fund created for the purpose of providing assistance to students from disadvantaged communities in Toronto entering an Ontario university.

So many memories: our first video shoot together, real estate events, Zoom calls during COVID, watching the Raptors win the NBA Championship together, driving supercars in Niagara, summer fun in Prince Edward County, cannabis cooking classes, and of course, the day Jake received his official BREL onesie uniform. ❤️🥰
