There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a weekend…but all those pesky home to-do’s take the fun out of everything. Until now.
In the spirit of doing what you’re good at and outsourcing the rest, here are our top picks for ways you can make your weekend extra fabulous and the days leading up to it easy-peasy. Whether you’re entertaining, or just looking to relax in your yard or on your balcony, this list has you covered.
Whether you want to order and pick up or have the groceries delivered, you can save yourself the time spent pushing the cart around the store. Try Loblaws, Grocery Gateway or our personal favourite, Instacart (they deliver from Walmart and Shoppers Drugmart too).
You can now get alcohol delivered to your home in several ways. If you have a few days, you can order from the LCBO or you can order beer for delivery from many Toronto Breweries. If your favourite doesn’t offer home delivery, or you’re thirsty right now, try Inabuggy . They can have bottles on your doorstep in as little as an hour. 🍺
Planning a get-together and need ice? There’s no need to run from gas station to gas station on the weekend trying to find enough ice to fill your cooler. You can chill and wait for the ice to come to you. Ice delivery is a thing. Just be sure to place your order in advance.
We’re repeating this one from last month because you probably thought about getting your windows cleaned but are procrastinating. Trust us, there’s nothing worse than washing your own windows on the weekend. Clean windows are worth every penny.
Some people like to spend their weekends making their lawn looking great. We are not those people, and if you’re reading this, there is a good chance neither are you. Get someone to take care of your lawn, and then do what you want with your weekend. Need a one-off lawn clean-up? Call the folks at Jiffy.
All jokes aside, having a pool person makes a huge difference in the joys of pool ownership. If you have recently purchased a home with a pool or put one in without hiring a pool hand, you really should just bite the bullet. There are lots of companies to choose from, but you can start your search here. 👙
The arrival of May cues that time of year when we swap out our winter wear for our spring and summer wardrobes. But if you’re in a condo or a house with not enough closets, this is a stressful process. No more. With Second Closet you can schedule the pickup of your winter wardrobe or whatever you want to store, they come and pick it up of for offsite storage, and then you message them when you need them to bring something back. Amazing.
If you love a great barbeque but have no desire to spend your time sweating in front of the grill, these people will bring a fabulous feast to your backyard, for as few as 24 guests. Delicious.
Ok, so you DO want to sweat in front of the grill or the smoker….but you don’t have exactly what you need to create the feast you are planning for your friends and family. There’s no need to buy a Big Green Egg for one night. You can rent the equipment you need, have it delivered, and then watch it go away as it’s picked up the very next day.
Maybe you don’t want to cook at all. Order charcuterie and you can just lay out a spread and forget it. Some spots like this one will even deliver same day if you order early enough.
Your deck probably needs cleaning. And you probably don’t want to do it. Moving the furniture, hauling the equipment around, then putting all back? There are way better ways to spend your time. Call in the pros. They do deck staining too. In case that was also on your list.
If you have no room in your yard because your tree has taken over, and worse, because it’s dropping branches or bark everywhere, it’s time to call an arborist . Give your trees and health check, get advice on how to trim them, and some help doing it, and you’ll save yourself from having to do the work – and potentially extend the life of your shady friend.
If you are considering adding a shed, playset or gazebo, but have no desire to actually build any of the above, you can hire people to come in and do the installation for you. This may not be for you handy types, but it means the difference between a shed and no shed for the rest of you.
Hot Tub Rental
Take your weekend to the next level with a hot tub rental. You’ll need to check your condo regulations if you are considering this for your terrace (it’s probably NOT allowed), but for those of you with a yard, you don’t need any extra electrical or special considerations. They drop it off, fill it up and off you go.
Large Game Rentals
Lastly, you can up the fun-factor of any weekend gathering big time by renting some giant games for your yard. Choose from Jenga, chess, connect 4 and more. It’s like inviting everyone over for croquet, without the croquet.
