About Queen and Portland - 156 portland street, toronto, on

The Queen and Portland Lofts (mostly know simply by its address) is a boutique mid-rise condo in a great location on bustling Queen West. The 96 suites range in size from 540 to nearly 1300 square feet are spread out over 7 stories. Amenities in the building include a fitness centre and a spectacular 20,000 square foot outdoor common space that offers a BBQ area and a water feature.

Tribute Communities offered high-end Miele appliances alongside engineered hardwood and nicely appointed bathrooms when suites here were originally offered. Moreover, attention was paid to the environmental impact of the building: EnergyStar certified appliances, water saving faucets and dual flush toilets are found throughout the development. While this may not matter to some, these green-minded features in a building that incorporates three bedroom units makes it a rarity in the downtown core.

The Queen and Portland Lofts and Condominium Residences are a paradise of convenience for the busy urbanite. There’s a massive grocery store attached to the building and a ton of restaurants, bars, pubs and nightclubs within only a few blocks. Retail options are in no short supply either, with Winners, Joe Fresh and the Bank of Montreal sharing the same real estate…and that’s just in the SAME BUILDING. The ultimate urban lifestyle is at Queen and Portland.

What We LOVE :You’d be forgiven for not realizing there are residences above, as the first few storeys of 156 Portland are devoted to retail; the residential floors are stepped back significantly from Queen street, reducing street noise significantly. The BBQ terrace is really the highlight of the building, and residents tend to use it well throughout the summer. A close second is the excellent Loblaws downstairs, with its wall of cheese and underground parking – great for guests.

What We Don’t: Most smaller units are fairly skinny, and as a quirk of the design, a few don’t have balconies.
