As part of our Agent Spotlight series, today we’re talking with Dena, who has been part of the BREL team since 2015. Dena is our Rental Specialist and helps 100+ tenants a year.

Why did you get into real estate?

I got into real estate because I have always loved Toronto’s condo buildings and what better way to see them all than by becoming an agent?  I also much prefer working out-and-about in the city and interacting with different kinds of people vs. sitting at a desk. I also love helping, and when my clients love the new home that I find, that it gives me great personal satisfaction.

What did you do before becoming an agent?

Prior to real estate, I worked in fashion and it has always been my passion. I was a personal shopper for many years and assisted people with their wardrobe, so it’s really not that different than real estate! I still get to shop, only now it’s for condos and houses instead of clothes. I think I meshed so easily into real estate because personal shopping is also helping people find what they want. Whether the decision is big or small, I love the hunt, the process and the journey of finding exactly what someone is looking for.

What’s it like being on the BREL team?

We have a very unique team..not only are we a team but we are also friends and that is very rare in this industry. We laugh together and support each other and always have an amazing time when we do group activities! I have been very lucky that working with BREL was my first venture in real estate when I became licensed in 2015. Our team is full of unique personalities and when we come together, we all feed off of each other’s sense of humour and ideas!

What do you love most about buying and selling homes?

I love working with people from all different walks of life and I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many individuals from all over the world. My clients have ranged from top executives to actors to university students and world-renowned doctors. I love the stories my clients tell and the reviews they leave online – navigating the rental market in Toronto is a crazy journey and it makes me so happy to know they appreciate my efforts.

Tell us about where you live.

I live at Bayview and Sheppard. I love it because it’s in a suburban area, yet it’s right off the highway. I live right across the mall, so after a long day of work, I just pop in and grab some take-out. My neighbourhood is so diverse and a mix of young professionals and families – just like the clients I help. I love coming home to my boutique-style condo because we are like a huge family and sometimes I get greeted by people in their pyjamas in the party room…everyone should be able to experience that feeling of community while living in a condo.

What does ‘home’ mean to you?

Home is where the heart is! As cheesy as that sounds, it’s true. Home is a place that should make you feel calm and at peace after a long day at work. Being able to read a book on your balcony or chill out in your cozy living room or entertain friends and family…that’s what home means to me.

What’s your craziest real estate story?

Hmm, I don’t even know where to begin with this one, as I have had dozens of crazy stories. My role on the team allows me to encounter so many people and situations. One story that stands out: in my second year on the BREL team, I had a client who played the organ for one of the most famous churches in Toronto. After our showing, he took me to the church and played the organ for me – it was surreal!

In 25 words or less, what’s your best advice for a Toronto Tenant?

As  the Rental Specialist on the team, I would say that two main pieces of advice would be to always have your documents ready and be patient! The rental market moves quickly, so as soon as you see a unit you love, jump on it and make an offer.

What we ❤️ best about Dena

From Mel (Broker/Owner at the BREL team):

Dena is truly the hardest-working person I know. Navigating Toronto’s rental market takes a kind of patience and tenacity that most real estate agents just don’t have. It’s not just hard work 7 days a week – it’s emotional too. Renting in Toronto is nerve-wracking, disappointing and frustrating for tenants – and Dena helps everyone through it with ease. Having helped literally 300+ tenants find homes, she knows every downtown condo and neighbourhood and our whole team often looks to her for advice. Dena is easily trusted by her clients – which comes in handy, given she’s often helping people find a home here from overseas and is often their first introduction to Toronto.

We love having Dena on the team. Her always-positive disposition and get-it-done attitude truly reflect who we strive to be at BREL.
