The Art Condos building in West Queen West has benefitted from media attention garnered for some of its more unique features. Located at the corner of Dovercourt and Sudbury (south of Queen), this 11 storey midrise building is home to 150 suites ranging in size from 460 to 1098 Square feet.
The Building was conceived by Artist turned-developer Gary Silverberg and is a combination of single floor suites and two-level “Skyloft” townhouses that have separate entrances. All benefit from a wealth of art that is delivered via flat-screen monitors outside the elevator on every floor. Even the loading dock becomes art at night thanks to a number of stage lights, a disco ball, and some theatre quality projection and screen equipment. Combined with some live/work units that are available for rent, it’s no surprise this building is known for promoting the vibrancy that Queen West is known for.
The building isn’t short of attractive amenities either. Art Condos is a fitness centre, a (serious) movie theatre, and a cool fifth-floor lounge complete with bar and kitchen that provides access to a spacious terrace filled with a fireplace, a hot tub and a space to grill whatever you fancy for dinner. All of this paired with the conveniences of the vibrant neighbourhood right outside the door makes for a building that is attractive from an urban living perspective.
What We : This is one of our favourite buildings in WQW. Great aesthetic, creative floor plans that work, stylish amenities appropriate for the hood, and an artistic sensibility that is more than just marketing hype. Plus it’s set back south of Queen, reducing traffic noise.
What We Don’t: Actually, there isn’t much we don’t like about Art Condos. We’d live here.
