The bulk of the local housing stock was built between the 1920s and the 1940s. It was at this time that land to the west of the St. Augustine Seminary began to transform into a cottaging community in a similar fashion to Mimico to the West of Toronto a couple decades before. Many of the larger, more permanent arts and crafts style homes constructed at that time have lingered and influence the aesthetics of the neighbourhood today. The current style includes Cape Cod, Edwardian, Tudor and Craftsmen style bungalows that intermingle with more recently built contemporary homes.

Stately properties in the area are highly coveted, and there is some expensive property to be had here. Fishleigh Drive to the south is lined with homes that are luxe with expansive views of Lake Ontario. Also popular are the forested properties along Chine Drive offering further privacy with heavy setbacks from the road.

This is one of a number of neighbourhoods in the area that continue to see increased turnover as of late. As values have been impacted downtown from intense demand, so too have prices increased in this area, though some of the smaller homes on usable lots still offer significantly more attainable price points. The increases are having a positive effect on the frequency of listings as well.

About Cliffside

Welcome to Toronto’s Cliffside neighbourhood!

Cliffside is a family-oriented, former suburb, of ‘the six’. Located along the eastern part of the Toronto beaches, it’s tree-lined residential streets, community-oriented atmosphere, and proximity to the water, make it an increasingly popular place for home ownership.

Cliffside residents have waterfront beach access (Lake Ontario, baby!), soaring sunset views (the Scarborough Bluffs), lush gardens (Rosetta McClain Gardens), tennis courts, and even a few yacht clubs (Cliffside Toronto Yacht Club, Scarborough Bluffs Sailing Club), at their fingertips. A yacht club?! Yes, it’s true. Hold on to your sailer shorts, nautical prints, and deck shoes, because you may be needing them.

The Cliffside Village ‘shopping district’, on Kingston Road, is an amazing mix of independent eateries, small boutiques, and ‘shop local’ stores. Living in Cliffside is like living in a village on the water, but with all of the amenities of the downtown Toronto core within driving distance.

With so many young professionals being driven to the outskirts of the city because of rising housing prices, Cliffside has become a coveted place to live. Stately homes, with ornate detailing, and beautiful grounds, are also readily available and with increasing demand in the area, these investments are for the smart and savvy.
